He's at it again.

www.theherald.co.uk/mostpopular.var.2424...rns_pen_doggerel.php

But this time he's suggesting that Burns makes him 'ramfeezled'. This in context of an article about unusual or rarely used words.

What unusual or rarely used words would Scotsgait readers use to describe the effect that Paxman has upon them?

He's pretty much below my radar, Robin so his effect on me is negligible.

However, here's one I'd happily use to describe the man:-

nihil ad rem

I'm amused to hear that Alex Salmond has suggested that Paxman is a “gowk” - translatable either as a cuckoo or a species of tit.

And I hear that one newspaper has suggested that Paxo should get stuffed.

Isn't it reassuring that our elected leaders and our top media figures show such maturity when engaging in debate and actually refute and rebuff the opposing arguments rather than indulging in crass and playground name calling and 'shooting the messenger' type behaviour.

Its such a privilege to be represented by people who set such a good example and such high standards of public behaviour.....

I think the point is that Paxman isn't worth taking seriously. He has no relevance to Scotland's cultural life. Schools are not going to stop teaching Burns to the weans, no one is going to stop celebrating his life and works and they're not going to cancel Burns as a key part of Homecoming Scotland next year because Paxman doesn't rate him.
Paxman likes to indulge in cheap stunts like this. It makes him feel important if people react to him. It's just like the way he'd rather be rude to the people he interviews and maybe make them so annoyed they leave the studio rather than try to improve our knowledge of what our politicians are doing.
My word for him isn't unusual or rarely used but I feel fits the bill - nonentity.

Will anyone be reading Paxo's drivel in 250 years.

No?

I thought not. I agree. He's an irrelevance.

I think a sense of the ridiculous would be good for many leaders, instead of the pompous posturing we get from some of these idiots. For instance why do we not have an annual pie-throwing contest where Bush could be bombarded with pies and tomatoes (rotten squishy ones) the tension that would release would possibly save many threatening nuclear bombs. Possibly many lives. Maybe we could get them all together and they must take part in some team building exercises such as paint balling competitions or laser gunfights.

They may just go home with a little less aggression inside, a little less need for power, and a little more concentration on how to do better for their own countries instead of taking over other countries for their oil reserves.

I see this piffle is still running strong on the Herald's letters page; news must be slow, eh?

I realise this thread is over two months old... but that just goes to prove some of the points made here!

The man is a no-one!

I came to look and see what the title was about, because I thought the stuffing (sage and onion type) manufacturers were up in arms about Burns and haggis'! Don't ask. It's still morning here and my brain is only working on 1 cylinder as yet!

I started to laugh at my self once I realised you were refering to the non entity of a so called journalist hack.

Weegie.
