My New Toy 3 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 7
The Acer Aspire One - weighing in at less than 1kg and costing £229 from Currys and not a penny to Micro$oft.

Here am I on the train and on Scotsgait. Now I can while away the hours when I'm away from home and can't work for whatever reason (and I'm sure I'll find reasons easily enough )

You've been very patient waiting for it to arrive TLJ. I wonder why the expression "like a kid let out of school" springs lightly to mind.

Enjoy!

You think ?

My delivery date through DABS kept getting put back and back and last Tuesday I got an e-mail just as I was passing Currys to say that it wouldn't be delivered until this week. On the off-chance, I went in to Currys and they'd just got their first delivery of them an hour before - the stock still wasn't properly through the system but they sold one to me nevertheless.

The only difference between this machine and the one I really wanted is the colour....but, then, it's only women who think the colour makes a difference ! So, here am I, sitting on the 7:52 ex Aberdeen, happily typing on my shocking pink laptop

(OK,that's not quite true - I didn't get the sapphire version but got the pearly white one instead and it looks manly enough for me.)

TLJ offered:You think ? We-e-e-ll! I was giving the benefit of the doubt. Of course, as you had no choice in the matter you had to be patient and as WWIII hadn't started in your area I presumed you'd managed to contain your impatience!

You really missed your chance there though. Just think of the interest generated by a man using a shocking pink laptop while travelling on public transport.

I am awaiting my new toy TLJ, a wireless ADSL router because my old one is on the blink. Hope this reaches you before it collapses again.

How about a very very simple for complete computer idiots explanation of what all the excitement is about. Now TLJ remember my age and relative ignorance about computers. And can you tell me if I can get a shocking pink one cause I am a gurrrl......well I was. Shut up DWS.

I think pearly white ( I am sure it matches your teeth ) will look good for a man if I knew what it is.

It can't get simpler than this:

(It's about 2lbs in weight and would fit in a medium sized handbag - if I had one )

I was on the King's Cross - Aberdeen service yesterday afternoon, returning this morning. It has free wireless internet.

However, I'll also be getting a "dongle" which will give me access anywhere (although that'll cost) !

(I've taken my wife's latest Mulberry bag. Hopefully, she'll not notice...)

Nice toy TLJ. If you don't want to carry a handbag then you should get yourself a manbag.

There's a new toy I want. It's called a slingbox and lets you view British telly on your computer anywhere in the world. www.slingmedia.com

We've just lost our British telly because the company which rebroadcast British and Irish channels locally got closed down due to piracy and tax evasion. In this area you need a 2.4 metre satellite dish to pick up British and Irish channels, and we don't have the space for it. Spanish telly is utter utter mince.

I'll have to get it sorted before Dr Who comes back on...

TLJ shared: (I've taken my wife's latest Mulberry bag. Hopefully, she'll not notice...) Good grief TLJ you should have said.....
I managed to find this one for you and I know it's a colour you like as you sounded disappointed at having to take the pearlised white one! http://tinyurl.com/5f9ata
If you must insist on being all traditional though then you could try here. www.laptopstuff.co.uk/c/Cases_and_Laptop...KYsJUCFQ5NQwodkiZlkg

You may be interested to learn that other less power hungry PCs are on the way. Have a look at
www.gdium.com and www.mandriva.com for the Gdium notebook. It has a 10 inch screen and all your data is stored on an USB key, allowing you to use it on any PC. It will be available September around EUR 400.
No more burnt Knees TLJ.

My New Toy sends you all a warm welcome. Dazzling speeds, a couple of Kilobits more than old faithful. I will now give the old one a good home in the Local Authority's dead electrical skip.
