Gretna
Yeah I can't help but agree.
I don't know the ins-and-outs of the Gretna saga but as a supporter of a wee club (Ayr Utd)I think it sends the wrong message to the smaller, more local clubs.
Football as a sport and as a spectator sport should not be viewed solely about money and what you've won, although in today's climate that is all that seems to be trumpeted.
Thus clubs get caught in the spiral of borrow to build new stadia and attract better players, gain promotion and borrow more to compete at that level, charge higher prices and attract richer fans.
The danger is there for all to see look at Gretna, look at Leeds Utd.
Added to which is the whole system of seeding teams in competitions which effectively insulates the 'big' teams from falling to lesser opposition (but hey that's what the game is about if we beat you home and away we go through. Why should you get to hide away in a later round just to hog the money. All this achieves is to starve smaller teams of access to the money, which keeps them small and unable to compete).
