Hello, New here 9 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 0
Not quite sure how to post what I wish, but here it goes. I am from America, married, two grown children who have moved along. We have two horses and a mini donkey and three cats to keep us company.
I am researching our Scottish side of the family. We know very little about them and had lost touch with them over 50 years ago. Our mother is 80 now with health issues and my goal is to find at least one living relly for her, so she knows the line continues.
I have been to usual sites but have yet to find that relative.
Well that's my story.....so hello.

Thank you all for the wonderful welcome. I do appreciate it.

I have Taylor, Rhind or Rhynd, Laird, MacFarlane in the line. It apprears that my great grandfather was illegitimate, his mother was the Rhind/Rhynd. Later married a Muirhead, who may or may not have adopted my great grandfather James. James never lived with his mother and step-father. Later he took on the name Taylor, I'm vguessing that perhaps he found out his true father's last name and decided to take that. He married an Elizabeth Moir Laird, they had several children including our grandmother Janet Moir Rhind Taylor. Others include Robert Muirhead Rhind Taylor, William Rhind Taylor, Martin Taylor, Thomas Black Taylor, Alexander Taylor and Mary Taylor. If any of these names are popping out to any, I would love to hear from them. They recided mostly in the Falkirk area. But also Arrochar, Alloa and possibly Edinburgh and Glasgow.
I do know there is a Grant Taylor out there somewhere, I'd love to be able to find him and share with him, what we do know. Thank you all again, I appreciate it.

Here are the G. Taylors from the phone book in the Falkirk area (sorry first names not given)might be worth sending them a letter or giving them a call if you're feeling brave!

I'll keep looking.

Hi Jacobsmom

Some more G Taylors in the areas you mentioned. There are lots in Edinburgh and Glasgow - too many to post. Here is the web page for the Telephone directory. You might be able to narrow them down from your own knowledge. It might be worth making up a stencil letter to post out to them, a long shot but you never know!!

www.thephonebook.bt.com/publisha.content/en/index.publisha

I'm assuming from the fact that you have two grown children and your Mum is 80 that you are aged around 50 - 60 (sorry if not). Very roughly that would mean your Great Grandfather
was born at the end of the 19th century around 1870-1890-ish
I have the census for 1881 on disc - I'll see if I can pick him up there- if so you may be able to track the family's whereabouts from records at Scotlandspeople.com (there's a charge for this I'm afraid). Thsi might take a wee while, I'll get back to you.

Hi Big Stu,

Thank you, I have tried a couple of these G Taylors but you have given me more to try.

I beg to differ on my age thank you. I am 46, still wet behind the ears....lol My great grandfather was probably born around 1856 or 57 in Arrochar. His mother was named Mary Rhind/Rhynd.

You're sweet, I appreciate anything you may be able to tell me.

Take care,
Stephanie

Hi TLJ,

I am not very familiar with Scotland in terms of area, so where would Eater Ross be in comparsion to Arrochar?

Hello Jacobsmom and welcome. To answer your question, Easter Ross is over 200 miles from Arrochar, which is on the West coast about 50 odd miles north of Glasgow.

Re genealogy I've been researching mine now for a few years and got back to 1450. I know my way around the archives fairly well so if you want some help, send me a private message with what you've got and I'll help all I can.

It's best to keep as many personal details off the main forum as it's so public, so, if at all possible, I'd encourage you to PM these things as dws suggests.
