Face the facts, Boris

WHEN Boris Johnson became Mayor of London it was only a matter of time before he said something stupid. That it has taken him just a month to put his foot in it was almost as predictable as the recycled rubbish he came out with yesterday when he turned his attention to Scotland.
Johnson – who had previously offended the entire town of Liverpool and once conspired to get a fellow journalist beaten up – declared that he could understand why people in the South East felt "resentful" that "they are forking out for things in Scotland". He added: "And you've got Scottish MPs, the Prime Minister and Chancellor, who are treating the country in an inequitable way."

Perhaps Johnson thinks the easiest way to stand up for London is to do down another part of the UK (one that's a safe distance away and which he's unlikely to ever need votes from). Perhaps he actually believes all the "subsidy junkie" propaganda peddled in London newspapers and those who like a cheap headline but never bother to examine the facts.

So here they are: the most recent analysis showed that Scots received an average of Ģ7,597 in public spending in one year – less than Northern Ireland and parts of northern England. Oh yes, and London, which receives an average Ģ8,404 per capita public funding. And that didn't include the Ģ3.5bn spent on the Jubilee Line extension to London's underground, which was paid for by all UK taxpayers. Please spare us your customary visit to apologise, Boris.

Agreed, but at least he is without guile and shows himself for what he is. How many complete buffoons hide amongst our politicians who are better versed at hiding their shortcomings?

Scary, isn't it...
