Alex Salmond has stated his belief that the Stone of Destiny isn't the Stone Of Destiny. I have always suspected something of the kind. Since the story goes that it was brought over from Ireland, the stone currently in Edinburgh Castle isn't fit for purpose because it was quarried near Scone. Of course, the stone that came from Ireland was supposed to have been used as a pillow by Jacob so it must have come from the Holy Land. That sounds like a load of blarney.

Somebody has been telling porkies here. Any theories?

I know that the "Stone" is a fake, why I photographed my wee grandsons sitting on the real one only a few days ago! What other proof do you need?

Another great idea has struck me. Why don't we send the fake to the nearest quarry with a stone crusher, and then sell 1 gram bits for £100 a time, like the holy relics of the past.

You may have gathered that I am not unduly exercised by, "is the stone real or a fake".
I am much more interested in our Saltire, and our Parliament, and their place, as potent symbols, in our evolving Scotland.

As you may have gathered I'm pretty well sacrilegious when it comes to icons. Nevertheless I do believe nations need a mythology. The possibility that the stone is a fake opens up all kinds of grounds for hypothesis, and speculation ( is that a tautology? ). We need a Shanachie.
