I see that New Labour have asked a psychiatrist to advise them on the strengths and weaknesses of Mr Salmond, to help Ms Alexander gain the upper-hand during debates.

thescotsman.scotsman.com/latestnews/Labo...t-to-beat.4223817.jp

He has revealed Mr Salmond to be a combative personality who revels in the din of heckles, but is intimidated by the strong, silent treatment.

Shall we now see a switch of tactics from Wendy, so that instead of her usual verbal diahorrhea she starts undermining Mr Salmond's equanimity with a prolonged dose of strong silence?

If so, what do other posters think Mr Salmond should do about this, in view of what we know about the psychology of Ms Alexander?

I remember a tactic suggested by the Royal College of Nursing when they were fighting with Thatcher sometime in the eighties was the deadly "Vigil of Silent Reproach". I'd be all for Ms Alexander adopting that.

I remember seeing an interesting gadget in one of the museums in Edinburgh. It was a clamp that was worn around the lower face, with a protruding part that went firmly over the tongue. The thing had a padlock and was used to silence the clacking tongue.
Time to get it out of the case and see if it is of any use here.

Having just watched FMQ's I can confirm such a device will not be needed. Today, of all days, Wendy Alexander has lost her voice! After the initail croak/whisper from La Alexander, Cathy Jamieson stepped up to the plate.

Same result though...
