So, the ugly rumour has finally hit the Herald.

Labour today refused to be drawn on claims the daughter of retiring Glasgow East MP David Marshall operated two private firms from the Marshall family home which also houses Mr Marshall's publicly-funded office.

Reports claimed Christina Marshall registered the property companies based at her father's home in March. The story comes just two days before the crucial Glasgow East by-election.

Scotland Office Minister David Cairns, who is managing Labour candidate Margaret Curran's campaign, said: "As far as we are concerned, David Marshall stood down as an MP on doctor's orders.

"Two doctors' letters said he wasn't fit to carry on, and we have accepted that."


A timely article, considering this was the talk of the steamie when Mr. Marshall resigned. One of the posters alleges the story broke in the Scottish Sun, thus forcing the Herald's hand to run with it.

I think it's too late to effect the vote on Thursday, but the can of worms has been opened.

I'm looking for the story on this one I'm afraid. Operating companies at her father's address. So what? The real story about Marshall is the half a million he claimed in expenses over a five year period (I think) to run a small office from home and pay two members of his family. Now that's what I call a story and the fact that it has yet to rear its head during the lead up to the by-election is kind of odd I would say regardless of the state of Marshall's health.

When I accessed it I checked their home page to see who they are. What they say is: TheyWorkForYou.com is a non-partisan website run by a charity which aims to make it easy for people to keep tabs on their elected and unelected representatives in Parliament and other assemblies. They also give loads more information in the right hand column of the page about David Marshall (which is the link I posted for you).

Thanks Brenna, I've had a look at it. Some odd wording in there. They say things like he "voted strongly" for things and just voted for other things. What is "voted strongly" all about?

The finances are interesting but don't tell an awful lot do they? The story is he paid two family members to run a small office within his home and claimed half a million over a five year period to run it. So no overheads there, just wages and the computer equipment. Think its safe to assume they weren't exactly on the minimum wage eh? Nice work if you can get it.

The comments below poined out the bias not just within the herald but also within the BBC. The other media outlets give just as biased a view. Curran is given every oportunity. Did anyone see the four party debate last night.

On the Herald site, Wardog has pointed out that Christina Marshall (junior) was PA to Jack McConnell at the time that that funds went missing. Of course, the police would have to interview everyone so we cannot read anything into the fact that she was questioned.

Wardog also reports an enquiry into why her father was booked into a 5 star hotel when he attended a conference ...
