Mr Kerr insisted he was “every bit as Scottish” as First Minister Alex Salmond. But he added: “I believe Scots families – my family – have too much to lose by the break-up of the UK.”
Oh, here we go.

Razor wire along the border...
Meanwhile Iain Gray, another likely leadership contender, said Labour should oppose the SNP’s proposed independence referendum.
No surprise there, then.
Before she quit, Ms Alexander had backed an early referendum, urging Mr Salmond to “bring it on”.
Aye, but that's not what she meant, Gordon Brown said so...
Mr Gray said: “It was right to call Alex Salmond’s bluff to get this out of the way quickly, but that is not going to happen.”
It was right....but now it isn't...erm...
The East Lothian MSP said: “Scottish Labour should never be afraid of the verdict of the Scottish people in an independence referendum, but that referendum should ask a straightforward, honest and fair question.”
Translated from Labour-speak:-
"Labour are crapping themselves over an independence referendum, but if we must have one, the question must be loaded towards the answer Labour want."
However Charlie Gordon – who quit Labour’s frontbench bec-ause of his role in the donations controversy that engulfed Ms Alexander – said: “Wendy’s view was that a referendum is inevitable and that’s my view too.”
Charlie Who?
Mr Gordon, MSP for Glasgow Cathcart, said he too wanted the chance to help rebuild Labour in the wake of its Glasgow East by-election defeat.
You have to hand it to them for sheer bloody-minded persistence...
Labour’s search for a new leader had been put on hold to concentrate on the by-election.
...and we all know what a success that was for them....
Others who have said they are considering running for the position are Cathy Jamieson, the current deputy leader,

Stop it!! My sides hurt!!
........ and East Renfrewshire MSP Ken Macintosh.
A political heavyweight if ever there was one, who he?
Labour’s procedures committee is due to meet today to set the timetable for selecting a new leader.
"Eenie, meenie, miney,mo......."
The party has already stated its new leader will be in place by the end of September.
Whether they like it or not...
