Macwhirter silenced by the BBC 2 Months, 3 Weeks ago Karma: 8
www.sundayherald.com/news/heraldnews/dis..._blacklist_claim.php

"Macwhirter, who has recently been a vociferous critic of BBC Scotland, gave evidence critical of the station to the government's Scottish Broadcasting Commission, which last week delivered a highly praised report after a year-long study of broadcasting in Scotland.

Since giving his evidence, previously regular requests that he appear on the station's political programmes have dried up. Leaked emails suggest programme makers have been told not to use him and the broadcasting commission chairman Blair Jenkins has been told of the ban by BBC insiders."

"At the time of his submission, in May this year, Macwhirter regularly appeared on a variety of BBC Scotland shows every week.

That changed after his appearance on Good Morning Scotland (GMS), the weekday news programme, on July 28.

After the show, GMS editor Philip Wells sent his BBC colleagues an email which stated: "Folks - could you check with me before we use Iain Macwhirter on our programmes."

The Sunday Herald has been told that on the same day a senior editor at BBC Scotland informed producers not to use Macwhirter on any of his programmes.

On July 29, debriefing notes from that morning's GMS show say: "We won't use Iain Macwhirter for the forseeable - if u need to ask come and have a word."

Macwhirter has not been used at all by BBC Scotland since."

That figures. Macwhirter is not exactly partial to New Labour spin either.

See also today's story in the Mail, alleging that the Beeb's Peter Knowles, the man in charge of the 'Today in Parliament' programme, recently told his staff to 'go easy' on the Labour Government now it is lagging behind the Tories in the polls.

Obviously the kicking they got from Alistair Campbell over the Kelly affair has left its scars.

When he's writing article's like this
then Gordy obviously won't be pleased...

Gordon Brown seems stuck in the Thatcherite 1980s and has failed to notice the profound changes brought about by the credit crunch and its aftermath. We really are in a different era. And the irony is that it should be Labour's era. It will assuredly not be Gordon Brown's.

It shouldn't be Labour's era though, they sold their soul long ago. I feel for the English electorate who have a choice of the red Tories, or the blue Tories.

Labour are dead in the water. They realise it (apart fron Gordon). They only have to admit it, and that won't happen until the autobiographies come out.

Not forgetting Clegg's yellow Tories, who want to cut income tax in order to 'help the poorest in society', according to Tavish, who apparently hasn't heard that the poorest in society actually can't afford to pay tax, so would not be helped.

Don't forget: vote New Labour, you get Tory policies. Vote Lib-Dem, you get New Labour policies i.e. Tory policies yet again.

On the orders of Labour the Scottish Press are really going to up-the-ante against the SNP before the next general election and an Independence Referendum in 2010.

Do posters think that people in Scotland are starting to see through the lies and distortion? The press must still influence a hell of a lot of people. The Scottish Government can't do anything about it. Its only people that take an interest in politics and access the internet that are going to see both sides of the story. The SNP are popular now but can the press scare off the people before 2010? I know people aren't stupid - but do the majority of people believe everything they see on the papers, hear on the radio and watch on the TV? Unionists have every angle covered.

Rumours abound that Paul Hutcheon is leaving the Sunday Herald...I wonder if he's interested in Douglas Fraser's old job?
