The Westminster government has treated the Gurkhas shamefully and for once a judge has made a sensible ruling that will make ministers do what every right thinking person in the UK wants.
It's a scandal that we are being swamped with religious maniacs, spongers, the diseased and criminals and all with the connivance of a government that knows perfectly well that the vast majority of the population abhors uncontrolled immigration. Then they have the crass stupidity to deny succour to those who have served the UK with bravery and distinction for decades. These men have won the right to our support and we should not stint in giving it to them.

I agree totally. That they should have to take it to court says much about those that govern us.

This injustice has lasted for far too long. Thank goodness for our courts for overturning this scandel.

To me the judge said it all when he commented: The judge, Mr Justice Blake, said the Gurkhas' long service, conspicuous acts of bravery and loyalty to the Crown all pointed to a "moral debt of honour" and gratitude felt by British people. Thank goodness common sense prevailed at long last. I agree it is a victory for decency Lev and shows a proper sense of responsibility towards those who served loyally in so many instances.

I hesitate to jump in here. But was citizenship ever part of the deal? They were offered jobs in the British army for payment and a pension at the end. But was citizenship ever mentioned?

I have been trekking in Nepal. The people are fantastic; friendly, fun-loving and extremely hardy. They certainly won my respect. The country desperately need investment. Gurkhas returning with a pension can bring some money into the country. I met one ex-Gurkha who had used his pension to build a hotel catering for trekkers. With their experience, these people can bring a lot back to their home country.
