This article was in today's Independent. www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/a...00-grant-835197.html
Proposals to pay MPs Ģ23,000 a year on top of their salaries to help them avoid embarrassing disclosures over their expenses provoked anger, as campaigners labelled them a "sneaky" move that would prevent the system becoming more transparent.
Yet another scam started in Westminster to try and keep the electorate from seeing what dishonesty and greed operates within the UK government. If anyone was in any doubt over New Labour's committment to openness in government this should clarify it once and for all! Of course, it has the approval of Michael Martin: The Commons Estimates Committee, chaired by Michael Martin, the Speaker, is looking at a series of options, although the lump sum idea is understood to be the preferred choice.
How many more snouts will be pushed into this particular trough?

Brenna. What about people power? If we all decide they won't get away with this and say so, then they won't. The trouble is in this country too many don't give a stuff.

People power? No such thing. Look at the demos against the Iraq war.

At the end of the day, the main country of the union have 2 basic choices in a 1st past the post system - vote Conservative or Nu Labor. If they both decide to line their pockets, so much for the electorate and democracy.

Now, if there were a No Confidence option on the ballot paper we could keep these parasites out of office.

My suggestion--a fuel strike, by that, I mean the whole country for once getting together and refusing to buy fuel for a whole day in a week. Then next week two days. In effect a national strike with a difference.

To ensure the success of a strike like this the people in the country would need to work together.

This country has lost the will to do this. We live behind walls and hedges we don't speak to our neighbours anymore; our world has changed encouraged by politicians who want a divided country, which allows them freer reign
