The history of Kosovo - both ancient and modern - is a murky affair. Nato and UN involvement in the region has been problematic in that they have hardly been neutral. The bloody crisis in Kosovo will not end with the west backing and bolstering an Albanian ethnic state there, but is likely to continue for generations to come.

I agree.
Our involvement, or lack of it during the height of the wars there, and then the bombing of Serbia were a good example of us fiddling while Rome, or in this case Szrebrinica, Mostar and Sarajevo burned.
We couldn't agree who was who and what was what so innocent civilians died in their 10s of thousands.
We wouldn't send in our soldiers because they might get shot at!!!
There is evidence that the KLA is one of the largest heroin importers into Western Europe and is the end of a chain that streches to the US controlled North of Afghanistan and our Northern Alliance allies.( from a book entitled Crossing the Rubicon by Michael Ruppert)
I'm a fervent supporter of democracy and democratic principles but there are allegations that Kosovo has been and will be further ethnically cleansed of Serbs, who because they are pro-Rusian are still, we are told our enemy.
And furthermore just because some group in a particular location decides they want to be independent does that mean they are to be guaranteed the right to be so?
How about the Free Skye Movement or the People's Republic of Mull, or for that matter the Kingdom of Fife? It's absurd. Geo-political power games by the uber-bureaucrats in Brussels.
Kosovo can never be a functioning independent state. It has no raw materials, no skills base, no industry. It will be forever a puppet in a globalised world.

I wish I could feel optimistic on the outcome of Kosovo independance, but I can't, I feel that this move will only exacerbate the unrest that already exists in the area.
All that I can visualise are small pockets of hotheaded Serbian resistance fighters to start with, then the esculation into a full civil conflict.
Or even the ethnic cleaning of Serbs in the area.
I believe that it will only be a short time before trouble starts brewing again, although I sincerely hope that I am wrong.
In the meantime a total of 16000 UN peacekeeping forces are being deployed with Britain sending an additional 1000 troops (we do not have any more in reserve) due to leave in the next few days.
We also have the strange situation where some members of the EU already recognise the new state of Kosovo, whilst other members do not.
I sincerely wish for a peaceful outcome but I do have my doubts.
