TOPIC: The Belgian Break-Up and an independent Scotland

Almost three months after elections, Belgium has no government and efforts to form one are on hold. Both politicians and media are now openly suggesting that the country may divide into either two or three parts.

This is a hugely important issue with respect to Scotland as the question over continuing EU membership of both resultant states when an existing member states divides will have to be resolved. In Belgiums case, it will be most definitely be resolved in favour of continued membership for both new states (or all three if Brussels is given a unique status) .

The formal precedent will then be set - and another unionist myth will bite the dust.

However, a foolish thing to do in such a small and historical country. Where does 'independance' begin and end? By the town, the county?
