Sorry,Lydia, I meant to post on here yesterday, but my computer crashed and, to my shame, when it came back up, I forgot, while wasting my time on work!
Rest assured, Lydia, you and the wee man have been very much in my thoughts and prayers since I read this yesterday. I did send your story to my church and he will be prayed for at daily mass for a while as a special intention.
As you say, I wouldn't stress too much about his bad night, it could well have been expected and I am sure he is receiving the best of care.
You know, there is a lot of discussion and argument going on across this board and others, and rightly so, I hope it continues, but occasionally someone puts something up which puts everything into perspective and reminds us of what is really important - community, friendship and care. Well, the wee man's not even a week old yet and he's done that for us. Thanks for sharing this with us, Granny. (OK if I call you that? )
Scunnert, where on earth did you get that blessing, it's wonderful. Is it copyright, cos I'd really like to share it with a lot of people?

My good wishes and hopes for this wee mite, and that he continues to prosper. With Lydia and all who are concerned with this child, and who look after him, I feel he has the best of starts now, and in the future.
Thank you so much it is lovely how everyone rallies round to send their best to him. Still no name, other than treasure, mum and dad are still debating the issue, (that was a nice way of putting they cannot agree).

Hi Martin, nice to see you back, you disappeared for a while and I do not think I said welcome back.
Thank you for your prayers and for putting in his Intentions, I find these things a great comfort as do his Mum and Dad. It is a time I would like to spend more time in church but that is not possible time wise just now which is often the way. The people in the Cathedral are very much a family and are praying for him daily too. My family is quite spread out and he is on prayer lists all over the world.
Prayers are not always answered in the way we want, but his best chance is for as many as possible to pray for a positive outcome.
No matter what the future brings, I do not think we will ever be able to say thank you to the people who are looking after him. They are giving him the best possible chance. Words just do not do it do they, no matter how eloquent the speaker.
He did not have such a good night last night he had to go back on the ventilator but they tell us they would have been very surprised if he had not. He is being supported in so many ways with so many drugs because everything is so immature. He seems to be a fighter though and really, only time will tell if he has what it takes. He has had a better day so far today. He looks just a little less like a wee old man but not much. His mum tells me she thinks he has ADHD he is so active.
You are right about the feeling of community on Scotgait and about the rigorous debate. It is how people change their opinion, learn and get close to each other. That is how a family works. You may very well argue a point vigorously during a discussion over dinner but would defend the family member to the death. I do enjoy the site.
I am Granny + Grandma and the 8 1/2 month old the wee chaps older sister would you believe, calls me La La I protest but she ignores me. I am reminded of the old Irish saying the old Loo La. (Please dont ask what it means and if anyone else knows dont tell).

Our brave little Shane Patterson born 8th June 2008 at 5 am gave up his fight for life after a long struggle at 12.15 am this morning 13th June 2008. His Mum and Dad are of course quite devastated, as are the rest of his family. They asked me to say a big thank you to all who prayed for our cherished little boy.
LOVE IS LOVE'S OWN REWARD
"I'LL LEND YOU FOR A LITTLE WHILE A CHILD OF MINE," GOD SAID,
"FOR YOU TO CHERISH WHILE HE LIVES AND MOURN FOR WHEN HE'S DEAD.
IT MAY BE SIX OR SEVEN YEARS OR ONLY TWO OR THREE,
BUT WILL YOU, TILL I CALL HIM HOME LOOK AFTER HIM FOR ME?
HE'LL BRING HIS LOVE TO GLADDEN YOU AND SHOULD HIS STAY BE BRIEF,
YOU'LL HAVE A HOST OF MEMORIES AS SOLACE FOR YOUR GRIEF.
I CANNOT PROMISE HE WILL STAY AS ALL FROM EARTH RETURN,
BUT THERE ARE LESSONS TAUGHT BELOW I WANT THIS CHILD TO LEARN.
I'VE LOOKED THE WIDE WORLD OVER IN MY SEARCH FOR TEACHERS TRUE,
AND FROM THE THRONG THAT CROWDS LIFE'S LAND AT LAST I'VE CHOSEN YOU.
NOW WILL YOU GIVE HIM ALL YOUR LOVE NOR THINK YOUR LABOUR VAIN,
AND TURN AGAINST ME WHEN I COME TO TAKE HIM BACK AGAIN.

However hard these five days have been, they'll still form precious memories for his parents and for you.
Take care.

You are so right TLJ, he was quite a little character. We will eventually feel the joy of having known him.

I was saddened to learn that the wee life had come to an end. May you all find comfort and my thoughts are with you all.

I've not been on the forum in the last couple of days or I would have passed on my condolences to you sooner. What a very special boy Shane was with all the love that his life created and the way he brought so many people together. You are all in my thoughts.
